First Question to the forum, hope that it has not been asked. Is there any aftermarket product that you can install to reduce the diesel ping on the Powerstroke ? Love my diesel but would like it be a bit quieter if possible and of course do not want sacrifce power/torque. Reason I ask is that my brother in law has a duramax and it tons quieter than the powerstoke. thanks
Whats the matter, you don't like driving a tractor Sorry, just kidding:-). That is one of the reasons I didn't buy a PSD. Others love the sound. The new 6.0 is "cab quieter" due to a lot of extra cab insulation. You should look into "sound proofing" the cab to limit the "music" from the diesel. I doubt you can lessen the engine clatter except by buying the new 6.0
Love driving the tractor, but occasionally I would like to hear my conversations with the backseat drivers without feeling like have to shout. I have heard that the new '04 PSD is quieter although they might have been talking about the 6.0. Still love my 7.3 Crew Lariat..just would like to improve an already great truck !!
Do you have sound insulation on the bottom of the hood? If not, that's a good place to start. Also if you can, look under the hood & the area under the dash of a diesel Excursion. They have a lot of sound deadening material that is a simple add-on to your truck.
In addition to installing a ton of sound insulation, shop around for fuel- using only those places that sell a lot of diesel! I've found there to be a HUGE difference in "engine noise" between fuel sold by different brands/stores. A high quality diesel additive may also help quiet the rattle.
