The passenger's side power window on my 1985 F150 Lariat just stopped working. It is stuck about 1/2" from seating at the top. When I push the passenger's side power window button on either side (driver's side also has a button for the passenger's side power window), nothing happens. No noise, no groan, nothing. It won't move up or down at all. The driver's side works, (although it moves very slow) so I suppose that would eliminate a fuse problem.
1. - How can I temporarily get the window all the way up until I can properly fix the problem?

To do a temp fix, remove the door panel...
You can take your hand and move the window up as you are actuating the window button...Should go up fairly easilly...
Probably the plastic prongs inside the gear case(where the motor is attached to the gearing) are broken off...You can take the assembly out (when you get a little time,,not as bad as it looks.)and clean out the plastic and put small nuts in the slots around the cam...
This worked for me as a temp fix, (that was in 1997) still working...
I took my complete assembly out by drilling out the pop rivets that hold it on and then putting 1/4 by 20 half inch bolts back in the holes to hold it on..
Right trucker trav, the gears strip out over time, leaving the window helpless .Plastic replacement gear kits are available at our local auto parts store . Lariat if you suspect a power problem in which wires can break @the door(where it hinges) try running temporary power to the motor /switch,using the diagram Chris has provided .TR

Good advice, my mom's Cherokee has a messed up wire at this exact spot (where the door hinges) and we used to have to open the door to a certain spot before the windows would work. Now they work when they're closed and only act up when I open the doors, lol.
Open the door to random positions while pushing the window button and see if it starts working.

P/W motor contains a nylon gear that strips, 2 possible causes. (1) The gear's lubricant turns to the consistancy of tar.
(2) There are 3 round wedges that fit around the gear to retain it in position. These disintigrate, or become ovate shaped.

Window regulator has a stud on its end that the window roller attaches to, then fits into the glass channel. Roller breaks, window binds up or falls down to the bottom of the door.

Worst case scenario: I'm not 100% sure if the factoryinstalled window channel that the roller fits into...is steel or plastic, but I think it's plastic. If so, it's a notorious POS, cracks apart, window binds up.
