Disc brake conversion ques?

Hey everybody! I have a 65 f-100 2 wd I want to convert to power disc on the front. I know where there is a 85 E-150 van with all the stuff I could get. I was wondering if the van parts can be swapped over or if I need to keep looking for a 70 s truck? Thanks

No, you need to stay with pickup 73-76 for your 352 or 73-79 for your 6 banger. Those parts don't work.

Ok thanks for the reply I think I have found a complete 79 I can get. I will try to get the truck for parts and go that direction.

Hi JoWilker,

Why the different year ranges for donor depending on whether the slick came with a 352 or a I-6? Becky (1966 F100 2WD) came with a 352 (but now has a 302) and we used all the parts from a 1979 to do the power disc brake conversion -- working great so far. Am I staring at a problem down the road?

Gavin, The 65-66 V8 was the FE 352, the FE 360 was last used in 76. To do a complete swap you will need a power steering pump. The I6 pump uses a different bracket from the FE for lovingly caressing the pump holding it tightly for proper belt tension.

There were no 302s installed on 65-66 pickups.

OK Thanks John,

The power steering pump set up came from a 73 mustang with a windsor small block; the PS box came from a 1976 F100, but there was no engine in it when I pulled the box and I did not look at the VIN. I realize the 302 was not available in 66, that was the engine in the truck when we bought it. It sounds like I am OK with the brake setup from a 1979 then. Thanks again.

Those parts will work, make sure you also pull the proportioning valve and brake light switch from the 79, definitely easier if you can find the a full donor truck with your exact engine, everything will swap easier and you have a ready template to work from but that's not always available or practical so just print out all the write ups you find on this conversion and there will be a solution to any of the sticky issues.
