So... Picked up a 90 bronco & it's had the tail gate replaced & they didn't wire up the window. I tried to wire it up to the factory wiring on the truck & I get nothing. So for now I have two wires hanging out the back now to roll it up or down with a battery. It kinda gets on my nerves!
The wires have power when I hook them to a year light but nothing when I hook them to the window wiring. Any sujestion's on how to wire it up? Two way toggle switch?
Im no good at chasing wires around so its easy enough to hook up & hide a couple new wires under the carpet & not paying some one else to do it.
Nothing... at either switch? If so, and there are no other electrical issues (i.e. power windows or door locks that don't work) then check the negative connections (ground as folks like to call them) The negative for the tailgate is actually way up front behind the driver's kick panel near the bottom of the dashboard. Since, the window works with a stand-alone battery, the problem is obviously not motor itself.
There is a safety interlock switch on the driver's side latch in the gate that must engage before the window will work using the OEM wiring. If the gate is mis-aligned or the latch doesn't fully engage for some reason, the window won't move. The diagram in most any Haynes or other manual should give you a good idea as to what should be connected where and what color the wires are.
