will this engine work
John
I'm still in the process of plotting & planning the 5.0/AOD EFI swap into my '66 F100 while continuing to use it as my daily driver. I got the engine, trans, harness, computer, etc all from the same donor, a '92 Mustang GT and I'm basically adapting that whole setup into my truck. There's a lot of info online and I've posted some of it in my thread on FTE. Will post more as progress continues.
Initially, I was going to use the in-cab tank so I got all the hi-pressure fuel delivery setup from a late 80's-early 90's F150 which mounts on the frame rail below the cab. Then I changed my mind and went with the 66 Mustang style tank setup for EFI with in-tank pump mounted under rear of the truck.
All that to say, you have a lot of options and there's a lot of info to help you with your process. Keep us posted and figure out that pic thing! We like pics!!
Off topic,
I agree with John. You need to re-evaluate the situation, particularly since you want a "clean, but nasty mean truck." To me, "clean" means nice looking paint, some custom touches, a nice interior, etc. You can easily exceed $4000 with that alone. To me, "nasty mean" means that it has some power which calls for engine and drive train modifications. Again, that alone can eat up $4000 quickly.
I didn't see the bed in your pictures. Do you have it?
If you can do body, paint, interior, engine, and drivetrain work yourself, then maybe you can do it within your budget but if not, you're going to need more money.
I've never done a complete restoration. I'm sure my truck will never be "finished." What I have learned from the small projects is that you need to expect to pay 1.25 to 1.5 times your best guess of the cost. Even with small projects there are things you will forget about at the beginning. There are things that you just won't know about until you've started and are taking things apart. There will be 50 years of previous owners' best ideas to correct. There are thing that just can't be accounted for completely at the start.
My suggestion is to sit down and write down everything you want to do and make your best effort to determine the cost. When that is done, add 50%. If you can't afford that, trim things that are not absolutely necessary from the list and see if you can get it close to an acceptable cost. And hey, if you're getting close to the end, you can see the light at the end of the tunnel and you're under budget, by all means spring for something you knocked off the list. But the point is you'd rather come in under budget than to go over and not have enough money to finish the project.
charliemccraney, I have no time limit so I am not going to be trying to rush this at all. When I say clean, I mean good paint, good interior, I would like to put the master cylinder under the cab and maybe put the battery somewhere hidden. I want the enginge comp to be free of anything I can hide. I like rat rods, but I want comfort so I will to rat it out per se buy I will keep it clean. Nasty means power, I want power. Fuel milage doesn't mean much to me since it will not be a daily driver.
I do have the bed, the guy I bought it from is doing the body work on it for free, he is a friend, I will do the rest of the work in the engine, the cab, and body prep myself so that is where I plan to save my money. I will pay to paint it but plan to do everything else myself. I know that I will have hidden things that will eat up money but I don not know what they are yet. I have had the truck for bout a week and it has rained every day so I don't get to spend time with her yet. I do know that the owner put down carpet without fixing the holes in the floor so i will have to redo his work on that. The rest of the cab looks pretty good, the dash and instraments and such. Like I said, I have no time limit, I plan on take all the time I can on this. I built a 73 charger once and I rushed it then sold it. I want to go slow and keep this truck forever. I have four kids to pass it down to.

It seems awkward, but whenever you "insert a picture" to one of these threads, the forum is looking for the picture somewhere on the web (which is always available) rather than from somewhere on your hard drive (which isn't always available).

Go to Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket and sign up for a free account. Then create an album for your truck. Upload any pics you want to post on FTE to that album. Have this album open on your computer when you want to post pics on FTE.
While you're making a post on FTE, select the pic you want to post from your Photobucket album. When the large version of the pic is open, right mouse click on it and select "View Image Info". The image info will be highlighted and will look something like this:
The best photos and videos | Photobucket
Copy that highlighted info (right click / copy).
When you have the spot in your post where you want the pic to be placed, select the "Insert Image" icon at the top of the post (looks like a mountain) and paste (right click / paste) the image info you copied in the highlighted box (just shows "http://" when it opens).
Your pic will be placed in the post.
Hope that helps.

. As you can see, the inner fender wells are not rusted, the drip guards are not rusted, the floor which is not pictured is not rusted either. The corners of the cab are not bad either, there are some small holes about the size of a dime that I will cut out and patch. I don't think I will need to replace the whole body mount or door jabs. They look pretty good. The truck has new shocks, new break lines, new break pads, and new seats which are not pictured. I will work on the sideways pics too.I don't know when it was last driven but the last inspection sticker was 1996, who knows after that because inspections are no longer needed in AR.
