mirror swap questions

have an 08 with the stupid small mirrors. i have power mirrors, but no heat. can i just plug and play the trailer tow mirrors in? i tore the inner skin apart and the truck wiring has 8 wires, and the mirror wiring has 3 wires. i wouldnt see why i wouldnt be able to plug and play but i really want to find out the hard way.

I think you can, we did on my 01. Call a dealer parts department, they can probably tell you. That's probably where you would have to get them, unless of course you find a junker. Good luck.

i called the dealer and they said that i "couldn't" swap them and it wouldnt work. sooo i did a bit of research and i know that they will bolt up, just not sure if it will be able to have power and defrost, since i only have power now.

Well, if I under stand this right the wiring will be there for everything, but the switches will have to be installed. The power tow mirrors have a switch on the door for adjustment and a second switch for in and out. I don't have heated mirrors but the mirrors have the heated logo on them so I assume I could add a switch and maybe a relay and have heated. Since I never ever ever go where it's cold I don't need heated. As to the parts department, I think I'd try another dealer. I'd bet big money that they will bolt up and the power stuff (except in out) will work off your switch.

I don't need the power folding just want power adjustability and defrost which I know fords defrost on the mirrors is automatic. So I am assuming they should bolt up plug in and work according to the homework I have done

update:
found a set of heated tow mirrors off a salvaged f450 with heavy front impact, so mirrors were good. I hooked them up to my truck and I have side to side operation and up and down, but no heat. i do not have a defrost button on the dash, but will peel truck apart tomorrow to see if there is perhaps any wiring for it tucked in there(but assuming not) what would need to be put in to make the defrost function work properly? i did not know this at the time, but the mirrors i purchased were power telescoping and folding mirrors so the wiring is different than my truck, which is a 2008 job 1 XLT, which came with those small worthless POS mirrors that shouldnt have ever been made, nor installed on any super duty.
