Took it off my new mustang II power rack. the oil pan rubs against the tubes so I need to re-route the tubes. Don't know anything about flaring. Might just go to the store and have them make them for me. Bring in a wire hanger template.

Like last time, you'd be MILES ahead IMO to use your hands or a tubing bender if necessary to put a subtle bend into that tube so that it doesn't rub the pan, then hook that thing back up and let sleeping dogs lie.

It looks like what is called a "Bubble flare", my wife's '96 Monte Carlo had them. I think it's a metric thing. They're fairly easy to make with a good double flaring tool. You do the inward flare first and then flip the line so it's pointing through the back of the clamp, the non-bevel side and do the outer flare. Go to Youtube, there are videos of the procedure.

If you're not sure of your abilities or don't have a good flaring tool either try what Doc suggested or have a pro make new lines for you.

I've bent and flared a fair amount of brake lines. Key #1 rule, a good flaring kit. Some are going to post to use the latest and greatest expensive flaring tool:

Which I have heard, work great but expensive and if you're only going to do a few IMO it's not worth it. They sold brand new kits but they were the same as the ones they loaned out.

I bought a kit like this from NAPA for around $40.

I learned real fast that the tools the the McParts places loan out for free are worth what they charge. It was worth the $40 I paid for mine. The loaner tools from both McParts stores I tried were worn out and woulnd't hold the line while I tried to flare it.

I also tried for the first time the green coated brake line, I had always used the old style line that kinked pretty easy. The green line worked great and took a lot to kink.

As long as you're slow and careful, you can easily bend that kind of tubing.

They also make a "bubble" flaring tool I don't remember if I got mine from Autozone or Advance Auto Parts. They also make hand benders which work pretty well.

If you have a double flair kit just pull the bubble half way down with the insert tool and your done,,,aka, half of a double flair.

No. But I wouldn't give up on that hose working without trying to re-bend it first. How did you resolve that previous issue when you needed a little more hose length after installing the extensions for your steering rack?

Good try dynamic. These are actually the tubes going from the steering box to each side of the rack. One is for turning left, and one is for turning right.

I think you need to read thru this thread: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...nual-rack.html

Even tho it's about manual racks, it's the same problem.
