ive been trying to figure, without much luck out what the difference between the trim levels of dentside f100/150s are custom, xlt, ranger, explorer. xlt ranger ect. and is there such thing a an f150 ranger explorer. i currently own a 1978 f150 4x4 custom which im told is the base model
The way it went was "custom", "ranger", Ranger XLT. In '77 only, there was an XLT luxury group. In '78 that became the "Lariat".
The "Explorer" was an option group that was offered for a limited time each year. It was usually ordered on the base "Custom" model because it included an upgraded interior but was also available on the Ranger.
You could order a Ranger Explorer.
The Explorer option was also available on the Bronco and Ranchero.
I've got a custom cab, the only luxury item I got is the am only radio and the 'road safety kit'. you can see that in my garage or library. No pattern at all in the vinyl seat and 1 colour plastic door panels. The fuel tank switch is a floor mounted inline tap valve.
