Starting to slip with a load behind me. Definitly want to go with solid flywheel. Kin you guys give me some tips on good brands or ones to avoid? Will I have to disconnect the line to slave cylinder? It is a PIA to bleed. Anything I should watch out for during the swap? Thanks in advance. ('97 OBS PSD)
Been very happy with my Valair as well. But I think a word of warning is probably fair.
They ARE NOT for everyone. The roll-over was a bit loud at first. For the first 2 to 3K miles, it literally sounded like my transmission was going to explode in 4th gear below 1800 RPM. It has quieted down a lot since then. It's barely noticeable in the other gears now. But, sometimes with a heavy load and a hill, 4th still chatters around a lot. And, not everyone experiences the roll-over. If I were buying another one, I'd still buy the same thing without hesitation. I've just seen some people on the forum buy them and complain about the noise.

Rollover gear noise is a cause from a solid flywheel, not the brand.
So I'm reading more and more posts that echo our experience - that the SMF rollover noise eventually subsides. Anybody have any theories (or actual knowledge) as to why this happens? Not that I'm not happy about it, I'm just curious....

It's kinda random and on a per truck basis.
I have no rollover noise now.
It was horrible at first.
The transmission is echoing the vibrations of the motor.
Dan says the Low RPM spike at idle causes the gears on the mainshaft to rattle causing the noise.
That's why with higher RPMs the rattle goes away because the motor smooths out.
The disk hub when new is tight, thus transfers the vibration to the transmission causing the mainshaft to rattle a bit.
When it loosens up the noise goes away.
The OEM disks have a plastic silencer ring in them to absorb the vibration which is why there is not a huge noticeable noise with the OEM replacements vs a performance replacement.
