I will be putting a new clutch and flywheel in pretty soon due to mine slipping pretty bad. I am curious if there are any other things I should do maintnance wise while I am under the truck with the trans out?
What year is your truck? The updated Fork should be considered a must if you don't already have one.
How many miles on the truck? Have you ever changed the clutch hydraulics? The hydraulics always seem to fail a couple of months after a clutch change.
Just curious, why are you replacing the flywheel too? We don't have a DMF flywheel, so you don't have to replace it. I'll assume the new clutch includes new throw out bearing, pressure plate and pilot bushing if you keep your flywheel.
guess I need to put some stuff in my sig. lol. Truck is a 2000, with 236k on her. Not really sure what you mean about changing the hydaulics thought..... I figured with this many miles on the flywheel I might as well put a new one on, know clue what previous owners did. So not sure how long clutch has been on truck and what shape flywheel is in. And yes it includes throw out bearing , press plate and bushing.
I'd save your money and keep the flywheel unless there's something wrong with it. Over 347k on my factory flywheel. My factory clutch started to slip when towing around 212k miles.
Our clutch is run off hydraulics instead of rods and bushings. We have a master & slave cylinder, and a hydraulic reservoir that takes brake fluid. When the hydraulics fail, it usually means you push the clutch to the floor to shift and the pedal just stays down. You'll have to pull the slave cylinder out of the bell housing before you pull the tranny.
If you've got a 2000, spend the money on an updated fork from Ford. Much easier to replace this now instead of pulling the tranny again. You do have a really big tranny jack (or something that attaches to a big floor jack) right? The ZF-6 is BIG.
Good deal , thanks for the heads up. Too bad I already bought the flywheel, lol Oh well will save me from having too much down time with having to take it to get it turned. The updated fork can be had only through ford? and I will be using a big trans jack for the job.
I can vouch for Chris saying the hydraulics usually go out a few months after you install a new clutch it happened to me. It sounds like you are already a bit deep money wise into this but if your can replacing the hydraulics at the same time would be a decent idea.

will do, I will plan on getting this stuff as well.
I had a LUK clutch in my truck, POS wouldn't stop bunny hopping, so I went back to the factory OE Valeo.
Also, a lot of guys like the pilot bushing VS the factory OE pilot bearing and I like the idea myself, but look what happened with mine.
It simply fell out of the flywheel when I removed the clutch.
I'm running the OE pilot bearing now.
I just have to plan on pulling the tranny every five years or so and service the bearing.
Kind of a hassle, but I don't see any other ways of keeping things up to par.
