302 rod caps
I just did a ring job on a 79 302 and i think I might of put the rod
caps back on either out of order or backwards,becuase the engine is extremly tight,any suggestions?

The rods and caps are all numbered in sequence ( 1 thru 8) The #'s are stamped on one side of the rods and caps on the flat surface next to where they mate. All #'s must match each other and all #'s have to be together ( same side of the rod) all the # side of the rods have to face the outside of the block and corellate to the cylinder they go in. Cylinders 1-4 are on the passenger side of the block, front to back ( block facing upright) Cylinders 5-8 are on the drivers side front to back. Take your motor apart and start over. If you can find one, get a Motor's repair manual, I have one from 1964 to 1970 and it explains all this. Or get an engine rebuild manual. Main caps are also #'d ( or should be ) 1 thru 5 and fit in the block from front to back, there's an arrow cast into each, and the arrows should face to the front of the block
