Got my headache rack from the local junkyard for 40 bucks. It really makes behind the cab look alot less bare. I looked up the same ones online and they go for around 240 plus shipping online. Gotta love junkyards

Subscribing and hopefully adding soon. Custom bumpers and headache rack are getting to the top of my to do list.

I need to mount my winches and I got a really cool idea for the headache rack.

This is just tacked together in this picture.

I built this out of scrap pipe I had laying around and some other stuff. The center of it is the center of a Warn Enforcer bumper (got the bumper from a friend because he destroyed it hooking a chain through the lighthole) I cut the uprights on it out of flat stock that I had, the "tow" hooks on it are off of a chevy that I had laying around, there's a bolt through it (grade 8) and it's welded to the upright. Grade 8 bolts are also holding it to the frame. The smaller diameter pipe is some pretty thick roll cage pipe, the thicker pipe in the center is much thicker than the rest. When I finished it, I had it sandblasted and powdercoated, which was done very poorly, and I painted it over in bedliner.

This is the best recent picture I have of it.

Its also pretty strong. I've used the hooks on it about a dozen times now to pull vehicles out of ditches, and I've hit 2 deer at about 60 mph and its still straight.

I forgot to mention that its also raked out at the top so if I hit a deer it goes under the truck and not into the hood.

I have yet to find a situation in which it's bad.

Probably just symantics, but if you're shopping for metal stock, don't buy "pipe." Pipe is used for plumbing, it's not particularly strong (for it's weight anyway) for structural use. "Tubing" is what roll cages, bumpers etc are made of. If you're sopping for stock, ask for tubing.

Friend of mines recently bought ex-plow truck has a nicely home made backrack, that runs all the way down the bed rails. It's all 1 piece and looks really tough and heavy.
