Question blinking O.D. light

My 2001 F350 Superduty has just gave me some problems. The trani will not shift unless the r.p.m. are high and then it will shift hard. when this has happened I noticed the overdrive switch was blinking. I checked the trani flude and found no problems. after letting the truck sit tha trani still don't shift right but o.d. switch not blinking. Has anyone heard of this problem or the fix. I have to drop the truck off at the end of the week for repair. thanks kevin

blinking light

thanks but it was not the rear end sensor. The tranny neededa rebuild (with 25000 miles) I was told there was a notice for repair but after 2 weeks of the trying to rebuild my unit they swapped with a new unit and started warrenty off @ 0 miles again. good luck to anyone with the same problem . I had the same symptoms on my older mustang and was told that Ford didn't properly shield the tranny from the exhaust and the heat was burning up a sensor. They replaced the tranny with a rebuild and put in a heat shield? Glad to see you got your done right!

Mine just did it and it was a stuck solenoid in the tranny.

My Tranny seems OK, a little ruff when not hauling something but I had my tow haul mode light flashing when I was on a hunting trip climbing a steephill in 4low. The only way I got it to turn off was to shut off the truck and then restart. It never has come back and the dealer had no clue.

Hey Outpost! Mine does this once every 2000 miles or so. Acts up for a couple of days and then straightens out. What is there to changing out the solenoid? Can't be too much farther in than the sonax valve and accumulator springs.

When the O/D light flashes, I was told that was an indicator light for an error. At times, my speedometer does not work, the light flashes. Once I come to a complete stop, the Speedometer starts working and the OD light goes off.

99 F-250 PSD Had the flashing O.D. light any time I was in park, and hard shifting. Turned out to be a sensor on the driver side of the tranny that tells the computer what gear your in. Easy do-it-yourself fix $50 part.

Angry dealer run around

well they have replaced the torque converter, but to no avail the od light still blinks and truck shifts hard. now the dealer says i need to give up truck for two weeks and have the trans. torn apart and have ford come up from nj to inspect and find route cause..they said plan at least 2 weeks to be without truck.
the truck has been in the shop at least a dozen times for same problem...truck now has 42k on it, but ford said they are still taking care of under warranty, since this has been ongoing....i am going to buy 05 and get rid of 02...love the truck not the headaches.

check it out

had light blinking on 94 250 diesel. ford dealer said check out asap. said check engine light can wait but not tranny light. took it to tranny shop and found 2 sensors bad and clutches slipping. took only couple minutes to hook reader up to plug under hood.

Blinking OD Light

Hi There

I have had this problem with all my SD's from 97 all the way upto my 2002

The problem I found after many trips to the dealership was the wiring running from your switch on the steering colum it seems the wires get pinched from using the tilt sterring.if you pull back the rubber on the shifter you should be able to see the wire, at least those were the problems I finally found it to be ....

good luck hope thats your problem....
