trans temp on the rise

my trans temp is getting up around that 170 mark what would give me the most drop in temperature a deep pan or a external cooler.

170*F is on the low end of normal operating range for the 4R100.

Nope. Not even close.

According to Ford:

Cold Range: 50° F or colder.
White Area: “Normal” operating range, 51° F to 248° F.
And in the Owner's Manual it says:

Correct fluid level

The transmission fluid should be checked at normal operating
temperature 66°C-77°C (150°F-170°F) on a level surface. The normal
operating temperature can be reached after approximately 30 km (20
miles) of driving.

170 is fine , if it 70* or warmer outside mine runs about 170 all the time(and i have added a 24,000 gvw cooler). the important thing is even when i tow my camper and boat it still stays at that temp.
