clutch kit

I've read over some of the former responses to clutch recommendations and have a question. Will a 12" clutch kit (disk/pressure plate) fit inside the bell housing of an FE. I read in one post that the zoom MU1011-1, which is a 12" disk, is a good choice. Also read where the larger pressure plate will hit the bellhousing??? This is for a F-100 4x4.

I think the largest was 11 1/2" in light duty stuff. The flywheel probably isn't drilled for it. The bigger trucks might have had 12" clutches, but were different flywheels and bellhousings.

With technology today, I don't see the need for 12" clutch.

Thanks for the reply. I actually just returned a clutch kit today, Zoom MU1011-1, was suppose to fit my application. Problem was the bolt pattern. 4 out of 6 holes lined up, the other just fell short, maybe 1/16" of an inch from lining up. Other than being made in China (what isn't) it looked like a well made heavy duty clutch. The flywheel I have is aftermarket and drilled for up to 12" clutch. I just ordered a Ram 11" HDX, about 2X as much $$ but hopefully it will fit. We'll see..................Tater

Ya, RAM will be alot more then a stock replacement style clutch. I bet it's the dual friction model? I don't remember what the part numbers denote.

BTW, Zoom is just reboxed parts, they don't actually make anything, unlike RAM.
