This implies that you were paying $40-50 for the time-sert...is this incorrect?
If a shop is doing the work and already has the tools the inserts themselves aren't very expensive.
I have the keensert tools and many boxes of different size inserts. My brother pulled the head stud threads out of his block once and just had to buy the insert which I believe was around $50 for 3-4 of them.

I just bought a 2000 F350 V10 with 200k on it. Was replacing all the plugs and COP's and I think I came across a Dorman in cylinder 3. Can those be removed and done right with an insert? Thx!

By the way I have done this on 30+ ford 4.9s and 5.4s over the past 3 yrs and have never had one fail yet!!!!!!
Excuse me, but when you say "4.9," do you actually mean the 300c.i./4.9 STRAIGHT SIX that Ford built from 1966 (as a 240c.i.) to 1996? The same "Big Six" that contributed MIGHTILY to Ford's historically good reputation? Because that was an iron block and (I believe) iron head, for it's whole lifespan, and I NEVER heard of a Big Six spitting a plug...
However like still to this day ford used the taper seat plugs in them which have a tendency of loosening up (sound familiar?) which if not caught even in the iron heads can cause the threads to be tore up and need a sert.
I flipping HATE taper seat plugs! Ford should be bitch slapped for using them.
282 out the door for the number 7 cylinder, going back at the beginning of next month for 2 more than every month after. No way am I going to get stranded due to a blown plug.... Time Sert all the way
