Transmission Leak

Well I just got back from the shop and they said I have a hairline crack on the transmission case (passengers side, top half). I saw it and it was leaking fluid. I have a few questions and needed some advice. First off, it is leaking pretty bad and needs to have something done with it. Is the crake weldable? Will welding the crack affect the transmission? How would something like this happen? I can understand manufacturing errors. Would driving style create a crack? I have a led foot and drive it like a race car most of the time. I do not pull trailers that often any more, but have done them on occasion. The shop says it will be $3700 to a remanufactured one. Does anybody have any reputable places to buy a remanufactured one from?
