Transfer Case Leak
I have a leak in the seal where the two halves of the transfer case bolt together. It leaks down to a certain level and then stops, but it worries me that it is too low. Since it is my "farm" truck, I really hate to pull it out (I'm getting too old to do this without a lift) or spend the money to have someone else fix it. So, I am looking for a simpler fix. I cleaned the outside of it and smeared some permatex on the area leaking. That actually worked for about 3-4 months, but started leaking again recently. I had a D4 Caterpillar dozer once and the Cat mechanic told me that tearing up some toilet paper and feeding it in the hydraulic fill would slow down the leaking seals. ?? Creative thinking.

You can also put sawdust in the crankcase of the engine to slow oil leaks. However, you'd only mask the problem, instead of fixing it...while causing more issues than what you already have.

I'm unaware of any half-azz fix for this that'd be worth doing. These are not difficult to repair T-cases, especially just resealing them. If you crack it open, it'd be wise to check the oil pump retainer, and shifter fork pads. I'd replace the pump while it's apart. Cheap insurance for a known issue.
If you drain the fluid after it has leaked down as far it does, how much comes out? They only hold around 2 qts.
