Folks,
I'm working on an '89 F250 with a 351W. It was having low fuel pressures issues, so I replaced filter. That didn't make any difference so I replaced the high pressure fuel pump. It ran for about 5 minutes before the pump quit. It showed about 5 psi. Next, I replaced the fuel pressure regulator and the fuel pump. Still only 5 psi. I checked the voltage at the pump and it was 12V. I know the pumps started out OK with about 5 ohms but now they both show open circuits. They are Airtex pumps, so... are Airtex pumps junk, or am I causing the problem?
No, I didn't replace the tank pumps. I suppose I could turn them on for a couple seconds and watch the fuel line, but I can very clearly hear them turn on for a couple seconds when I turn on the key.

Yep, I keep a piece of wire under the hood so I can jump the fuel pump anytime after all, it's 24 years old. I also keep a pressure gauge on the fuel rail. I guess I'm not doing anything wrong here. Airtex just has a serious quality control problem. I'll take it back and get a third pump, but it doesn't inspire much confidence. Maybe I can exchange it for another brand.
Thanks for the help
Jim
