I posted this in the Super Duty-Heavy Duty section, i figured it might be better off here.
The heater will stay on even with the igniton switch off, the only way to cut it off from blowing is to cut it off manually by the switch on the dash. Occasionaly I can hear what sounds like a relay clicking underneath the dash. I talked to Ford and they mentioned a Central Contral Unit (power box) under the dash might be an issue but obviously they said they would have to look at it to confirm. Any suggestions?
Does anything else stay on that shouldn't when the ignition is off?
The relay for the heater blower is probably in that control box - and it's probably stuck on.
If you find it, leave the heater on, and then whack it with the handle of a screwdriver. It might jar the relay loose If that fixes it, replace the box.
On the other hand, there might be something TELLING that relay to stay on. Any other aftermarket accessories? Remote start? Anything?
I just got permission to make a sig. It an 01 F-350.
As a side note not everyone can or chooses to see signatures so its typically best to ID your truck year, motor etc.
As Krewart says this sounds like a relay sticking. I'd ask when you cut it off manually is that by the speed control or by moving the function control to "off" from its other settings? (That's the one for Heat, Vent, Defrost, Mix, A/C & Max A/C.
When cut off manually it is by the blower setting. I believe everyone can see a sig, they just gotta look I'm on a lot of forums and everyone is always asking for an updated sig to diagnose the issue correctly.
Haha, you know what I meant. Yea, on the selector ****. I'm getting another issue fixed with a leak. The windshield has been replaced before I owned it and somebody got happy with glue or something or the hood just happened to rust in this one spot. But whenever it rains my truck leaks and if its a big rain my glovebox will fill up with water!!
What does the GEM do, and where is it? I just got the truck back from getting the windshield back and the heat doesn't even blow. If you can tell me where it is, I'll check it out.
The GEM is the "Generic Electronic Module" or some such thing. It's basically a large conglomeration of stuff all packed into one module. It deals with door locks, windows, heater/climate, etc.
It's under the dash on the passenger side, that's all I know right now... I don't have access to my service manual CD from where I am.
