I have to replace the blend door in my 01 expedition. i have done the research on both pulling the dash as well as the heater treater method. I dont exactly like the idea of cutting into the dash however, I also dont like the time on pulling the dash. Also, is there another after market blend door other than the heater treater or the one that you get from ford that always seems to break??? Which is the better method? What would you do to your truck??
I pulled my dash. Got cold quickly, had the time over the holiday to do it. And didn't want to wait for the heater treater to get here with shipping and stuff. And not sure about just cutting that open and hoping that their tape method won't ever give out. Since my husband has cancer, and I have young kids that could be with grandparents while I worked it seemed the better idea. Wasn't easy, but hopefully will last another 12 years and I don't plan on having this for that long anyway. It was time consuming, but it worked. Good luck with whatever you decide!

For those that do plan on keeping their vehicle for a while, when you get this far into removing the dash it would be prudent to also replace the heater core. I for one would hate to go through that whole ordeal anytime soon.
I would just go the heater treater way, it saves time when doing it yourself and money if you have someone else doing it. I have done this a few times to help some friends with the F series and expeditions, its not like you are actually cutting the dash itself. Plus, its not like theairbox unit is a high pressure anyways, so some metal duct tape is all that is needed to get it back together. Of course you have the right to do it how ever you wish, just passing on my thoughs.
thank you for all of your advice...apparently there are more than one blend door in the expedition that i have to control the front and rear...any advice on this?
There is one in the front, and two in the back. In the front the blend door axle breaks, in the rear it is the actuator gears. These are separate repairs, you don't need to do the back ones until you hear them popping.
