1949 Front Disc Brake Conversion

What is the best Master Cylinder to use to put back in the original location on a Front Disc Brake Conversion? (Power)

It kind of depends on what exactly you are working on. CPP has a complete kit with all you need.

I have a 49 ford f1 pick up that I put a 76 rear end under, and a disc brake conversion from Speed Way on the front , now I need a master cly. I would like a booster, that would bolt back in the orignal position, Looking at the Speed way book , I am confused at what works and what don.t Any Info would be appreciated

Hey LeRoy,
Welcome Aboard! I think the CPP they are referring to is
Classic Performance Parts. Post some pics of your truck so we can see what you are working with. We used a '68 Mustang Master Cylinder when we moved over to disc brakes up front. You can find them at most any parts place - we bought our's off of Rock Auto.

Classic Ford Truck Parts-1948-1964 Parts. The Finest in Suspension, Brakes, Steering and Accessories.

If you use a MC originally for disc drum application you won't need a proportioning valve it's built into the MC. You will need residual valves with the MC under the floor.

brakes

I did not use a booster but for my conversion i used a master cylinder from a 73 torino wagon off the shelf from O riley's. That particular model had disc fronts and drum rears so it worked great for my setup. You can also use a booster with that as the original car had one and the curb weight of the torino wagon is close to that of our F series (well mine anyway with the big cast iron FE up front).

I bought an MTM kit someone had for a 57 Chev (I think). Basically a generic 8" booster, what I believe they call a corvette style mc, and proportioning valve. The only thing I had to buy extra was the residual pressure valves since it is mounted under the floor.

I don't know how much room you have under the floor for a booster, but I'd recommend boosting disc brakes. If you can't fit a standard 10" single diaphram booster, you can get smaller diameter 7 or 8" double diaphram ones that are more compact. The booster will move the MC out from under the floor access hole, so you will need to cut a new hole and cover and/or use a remote rez., otherwise it's going to be a real pain in the *** to check and fill the MC.

Thanks guys for the info,my converson is on 1949 F2, I am wanting to keep it as stock as possible, using the original clutch, and brake pedal assembley. I assume with the booster, I will have to build some brackets, and extend the shaft. any other info appericated. LeRoy

This is what I am putting on my 49 F1 right now. Just got the right side on.

I ordered the MC, then couldn't get the front drums...so ordered the disc kit later. You can call them for advice and to make sure you get the valves et cetera.

Got prebent lines but then discovered that the new set up isn't gonna match but given all the valves left to put in, I think it will work out fine.

Thanks foe the reply. I now have a new problem, as I am trying to gather knowledge on the brakes, i decied to tear the tranmision down, an in doing so, I found a broken boss on the low ,reverse idler, that means a new case, which is a f2, 5 speed. I am trying to keep it stock with exception of the rear end and disc brakes, my motor is a 239, bored 60 over, ajustable lifters, and a 3/4 grind cam, just a little fun stuff, in my old age. any help on the location of a tranny box , in the Phoneix AZ area would be appreciated. LeRoy
