The path in which air is heated and passed to the choke is described in the second link I posted (with pictures); let me know if anything needs clarification.
PVS = ported vacuum switch. It switches a vacuum source based on coolant temperature. The simplest is a 2-port PVS; it opens to allow vacuum to pass after a certain temperature. The EGR cannot be connected to the second nipple on the PCV valve because that is a manifold vacuum source with no temperature control. The EGR valve must be connected as described in my previous post at a minimum.
I apologize. I completely missed the second link. It also dawned on me what PVS stood for shortly after I posted a reply. The truck currently doesn't have a PVS installed so I will have to get the parts store to order me one.
Upon removing the hot air stove, I discovered an obstruction in the coils in the tubing that goes into the intake. I took a stiff piece of wire and dislodged the obstruction and then took compressed air and blew the remnants out. I now feel suction when I place my finger over the hole behind the choke flap. I will have to get more gas before I can test to see if the choke is now operating properly.
Does anyone know if you can buy just a replacement float for the fuel sending unit? All of the box store only seem to carry the whole sending unit when all I need is a new float.
Thanks again and I apologize for being ditzy.
When you say "hole behind the choke flap," are you referring to the one shown in my third picture in the article (fresh air intake)? If so, you should definitely feel suction there and that's a positive sign.
The float may be bought separately. I think the brass float is still available through Ford. There's also a special solder-less kind that Dennis Carpenter sells that's supposed to never sink. I am in the process of replacing my sending unit (the tank is currently at a shop being cleaned out). When I install the tank, I will install the new float. I'm curious to see how it works out.
Yes sir, I am referring to the fresh air intake and I definitely feel suction. It is starting to feel like this project is destined to go unfinished. Everytime I make one step forward I get knocked three steps back. I decided to add a new fuel filter in the framerail going to the engine and I noticed it. Apparently one of my Mom's methhead neighbors decided they needed the gas more than I did and they punched a hole in my gas tank. It isn't a very large hole but a hole nonetheless. I wonder if the fuel tank epoxy they sell at the parts store is worth a crap. Does anyone have any experience with it? It may be a few days before I get to continue on track of trying to fix the choke system.
I apologize for the lack of updates. I had originally planned to continue working on the truck yesterday but Mother Nature had different plans. Our area was hit by severe weather yesterday afternoon and we have been without electricity since 5:45 yesterday afternoon. Our neighborhood was spared by a quarter mile. Hopefully if Mother Nature cooperates this weekend, I will resume working on the rig.
