I have an Autolite 2100 carb on my 351w. It runs OK, once running, however if the engine if left off for a day or so the carb fuel bowl empties. It seems it will not then not refill unless I open it up. Take out the venturis???, location B, and blast them with Carb cleaner. This sometimes also does not work and I have to run the fuel pump with the top of the carb off, the fuel then instantly sprays up with the pin in location B below, but after that with the top on the fuel bowl will fill and the engine will start. I'm confused what is causing this, any ideas? some sort of compression, blockage, etc?
Bad powervalve diaphram, bad accellerator pump diaphram, sticky needle/seat. The top holds the float in place against the needle/seat, that may be why the bowl will fill with the top removed. Sounds like it needs a rebuild and a thorough cleaning. Not what I'd do with it, but if you want to keep it, that's what needs to be done.
I have a seldom driven old car that has the same problem, except usually it starts up first thing fine but stalls for lack of fuel after a block of driving or so. It turned out to be a sticky needle and seat.
Next time you have this problem, remove the air cleaner and tap the carb body with a plastic screwdriver handle a couple times. Do this in a quiet area, because if it frees up the needle and seat you will hear a slight hiss as the fuel pressurized by the fuel pump sprays into the bowl.
I used to take it apart and poke at it every time, but found the tapping technique is quicker and less wear and tear on parts. Probably if the car were a daily driver the problem would disappear after a few days or weeks.
