steering wheel adapters

O.K. I know I'm a little thick between the ears, but I'm confused. I'm replacing my steering column with a Flaming River from Summit Racing. What steering wheel fits this column other than Flaming River wheels? And, do I need an adapter regardless of which wheel I get. The adapter has length to it and I'm worried the wheel will get too close. Any advice would be appreciated. How did you guys do it?

I have had to use adapters for aftermarket steering wheels.

I may be wrong but I seem to remember reading somewhere that the Flaming River column is based on a GM column and uses the same sized shaft. You would need an adapter for any aftermarket steering wheel anyway but there might be some GM wheel that would fit without one. Even though you purchased the column through Summit, I'd check the Flaming River website and consider buying an adapter directly from them to be sure you get the correct one for your column...

Most after market columns are based on the GM style but more are now making Ford based columns as well. So you will need an adapter for which ever column style you get. Unless you want to run a stock steering wheel for the brand your column is based on, but if that is the case why buy an aftermarket column?

Thanks all for the advice. I had to pull the old column to make sure of the length and then I'll order the new one. I've seen some high end builds that have an adapter the changes the look of the steering wheel because the adapter is so large. I guess it depends on which wheel I choose. Probably pull the old one this weekend. Thanks again guys.
