Shorter steering column?

Is there a shorter steering column, or a way to shorten the one I have. I have a 1977 F250 custom with the 351M. I just wish it was about 5 inches shorter so it wasnt right in my lap. Im not a small guy and I just wish that I could shorten the column. Any help would be great.

I've never tryed to shorten one, but anything can be done. Keep in mind though that if you shorten the column the wheel will get lower in your lap. The answer might be a tilt column instead of shortening. Another possibility is a smaller diameter wheel if you have power steering.

I have power steering. I have thought about the smaller diameter wheel. Sounds like a plan. What is the wheel diameter stock? 15 or 15.5 maybe. I will go with a 13.5 probably.

If you have power steering, yes, you can go with a smaller steering wheel.
