I don't get on the interstate much so I've really never paid much attention to it before. Truck in sig has a vibration (not a shimmy, if that makes sense) from about 65-75 mph. Not in the steering or seat, but it's pretty strong in the transfer case stick and less so on the trans stick.
Tested in 2 high and the front hubs are unlocked and tested to be free.
I've replaced the u-joints on the driveshaft and it didn't change anything. No steady bearing as it's a regular cab.
My thoughts are bent driveshaft, transfercase bearings or pinion bearing, but how do I narrow it down? What is the most likely? What else could it be?
check for any slack in the pinion shaft and in the transfer case output shaft, you shouldn't find any significant slop, though a tiny bit is normal. you should check with the wheels blocked and the tranny in neutral.
when i lost my pinion gear with broken teeth, i didn't notice vibrations, but a howling from hell. and obviously loose bearings on the pinion would cause vibrations as well, but probably also a noise like that.
a damaged driveshaft is my guess, you might do well to look up your local driveline specialist and bring the shaft in to them to have them check it for balance
