Question 86 compatible Engine

Hey guys. I'm back again this year to finish the work on my truck. Need to replace the engine entirely. (Very Long Story) So my question is, how new can I go up to in the 5.0 series before running into issues of needing to run all new computer wiring? Looking to get one by wednesday so a little urgent when you guys can...

1986 Ford F150
V8 5.0 motor
C6 Transmission

As long as you swap over your existing intake etc, then there should be no issue as long as you get it from a truck. Some of the later car HO units had a different firing order, but not insurmountable. The explorer motors would be the most difficult, head swap etc...

Thanks, I am only trying to find out because my buddy has a 1995 Ford Bronco with a V8 5.0 as well, his is always having computer issues. So I know my 86 being EFI has a simple computer so I kind of want to stick with that instead of having to run a whole new harness.

The only plugnplay would be 85-86 truck, other than that, you will need to swap your stuff on.

Yes remember you are only looking for a good base block/heads mechanical part of the engine. You will have to unscrew all the sensors and the other little stuff off your engine and transfer them to the "new" engine.
