As for the turbo I worry about my truck as now at 115,000 kms and no warranty left. I take great care of it but I know parts aren't cheap on the Super Duties.

Isn't the turbo covered under the 5 year 60,000 mile drive train warranty?

Yeah I thought powertrain was 160,000km. I would say the turbo is part of the powertrain...

This is why I'm on the fence for engine mods... should I wait for the warranty to expire or screw it, if an OEM part breaks then replace it with an aftermarket part.
Only thing is, 160,000km is already 'time get a new truck' kind of kilometres. I don't necessarily want to keep a vehicle for 400,000km. (Of my own driving. my 2004 6.0L has 425,000km over multiple owners and it needs new everything and I only keep it around in case I want a project to tackle.)

I don't know where the turbo falls, probably under the 60k like a few of you suggested.
One would think it would fall under the engine since it's kind of important?

Dealer wants it towed in on Monday so I'll try to coordinate that from DCA.
Should be fun.

From 2011 Warranty Guide (6th printing):
Turbo is under Emissions Warranty and the diesel engine warranty: if under Emissions will save you the deductible in some circumstances.

"Your vehicle’s direct injection diesel engine and certain engine
components are covered during the PowerStroke Diesel Engine Coverage
Period, which lasts for five years or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs
first. The following parts are covered during this extended coverage
period: the engine, cylinder block, heads and all internal parts, intake
and exhaust manifolds, timing gear, harmonic balancer, valve covers, oil
pan and pump, water pump, fuel system (excluding fuel lines, fuel tank
and frame mounted fuel conditioning module sometimes referred to as
the frame mounted pump/filter/water separator), high pressure lines,
gaskets and seals, glow plugs, turbocharger, two-stage turbocharger
assembly, turbocharger actuator, powertrain control module, engine
control module, high pressure fuel injection pump assembly, electronic
driver unit, injectors, injection pressure sensor, fuel rail pressure sensor,
high pressure oil regulator, exhaust back pressure regulator and sensor,
exhaust pressure sensor, manifold pressure sensor, intake air
temperature sensor, crankshaft position sensor, camshaft position sensor,
accelerator switch.

NOTE:

Some components may also be covered by the Emissions
Warranties. For more information, see pages 17-31."

Wow, good luck kper. You won't pay a dime, and shouldn't.

Turbo is not a hard repair but getting it delivered to your dealer may take a week. Hopefully you'll get it done quick.

The ESP has provisions for rental car in it.

Owl noise, grinding, clunking at cold start, I think you're right.
It was slowly failing from the beginning (if it's actually failed).
Could be something else I suppose...

Flatbed picked it up from the driveway this afternoon.
I'm in NH so didn't get to watch.

You have a 2012, I think you'll be OK.
These issues are known on the early builds.

Do the 12's have a different turbo?

I heard on another site that the turbo was redesigned for trucks after February of 2012, but my 12' was built on 12/15/2011.
