Thanks Steve. Good input. The tech was telling me that there is a bipass on the valve that would allow soot. Maybe it's either not enough soot to worry about or he may be mistaken... 50K is substantial data.
What setting on the tuner did you use to pass smog? I believe returning to the stock Ford tune would set off CEL, but maybe not until after the smog test???

Theoritically I could see soot build up on a non-functioning EGR valve. Most likely the exhaust pressure would create a "wall" or dam and block any exhaust flow near the cooler to upipe connection.

However, it's been said the exhaust can create enough pressure to lift the valve and also the other way around; enough boost can also lift the valve.

I would consider a program only delete the most basic and bare bones approach to an EGR delete.

Next would be installing a block-off "puck" at the upipe junction.

Then the stealth delete, followed by full delete.

I seem to recall, back when I first bought my truck, hearing that the egr acts as (or in lieu of ) a waste gate, hence "turbo fart". If what I heard was valid, then maybe this is the bipass the tech was referring to when saying soot can build up in the cooler, by slipping around the egr when opening to vent excess pressure? It seems that intermittent exhaust flow could cause more soot than if flowing normally whit fully operational EGR. Assuming that if what I said above was accurate.

I currently have the full sinister delete and was first considering the addition of cooler for stealth, but cali's EPA crap is worrying me. Just trying to do the smartest thing for engine longevity and reliability on the road, but still avoid having to open the top of the engine up in the future, hopefully, ever again.
