Hi guys, kinda new here. So, please be gentle I recently found a good deal on (and bought) a 2002 Ranger XLT SC 2Dr 4.0L 4WD AT. Okay, so that's what it is, right? No PW, PDL, or CC. At least it has AC which will be nice this summer. I thought all XLT's had the power windows and locks and cruise control. I'm sure I'm wrong in thinking this, because I looked at quite a few XLT's before the one I bought, and they none had these things. Also, looking at the different configurations the Ranger was sold in for 2002 on Edmonds, they don't list what I've got. They show the 4.0L 4WD SC with 2 doors and MT or with 4 doors and AT.
Anyway, I like my little truck, maybe more than I like my F-150 XLT Lariat, but would like to know what it really is.
My '04 Ranger XLT 4-door, 4WD does not have power windows or power locks, but it does have cruise and AC. I think it just depends on what the dealer/buyer ordered at the time. Heck, mine came with a battery warmer LOL...
Maybe begin with this sites VIN # decoder & see if it yields the info you want.
If not, then you want the 999 build sheet info & as has been said a Dealer, or Ford customer service can provide it with your VIN # & door jam info, but it might take a few weeks to get it.
I saved the build sheets for my 94 Taurus & 99 Ranger, kinda interesting to go back & review them & compare what we had to pay back then, to now & how equiptment packages changed over the years. Many things we had to opt for then, now come as standard equipt, but the base vehicle base price also increased!!!!
Furyus1, (BTW, cool name) a battery warmer? Seriously? Do you mean with heating elements or that thermal wrap like mine has?
Getting an OE list or build sheet might be a good idea. I'll try that. I've not even looked up under the seats to see if there might be something there, I know years ago they used to stick them there.
Thanks again. I've gotten tons of useful info from this site even before I joined, just by lurking around and going through past threads.
If you go to the top of this page "TechTools" drop down, you'll find a link to the VIN decoder, that with the drivers side door jam label info codes will give you a fairly good idea how it came equipped from the factory.

It's some kind of wrap/sleeve thing that wraps around the battery and plugs into a wiring harness - I'm not sure when it's supposed to be "activated" to warm the battery or even if it works at all. I didn't know what it was until I got an extensively detailed VIN report from a website that is now, sadly, defunct...
I'm pretty sure that features like power windows/locks/mirrors, cruise control and PATS have nothing to do with badging - they are (were) options available to all Rangers.
It ought to be kept in mind that certain power options are often found in conjunction with certain appearance/trim options. These are referred to as "Option Groups". These Option Groups, in turn, are often themelves bundled together and called "Preferred Equipment Packages" or something similar.
This type of mixing and bundling is probably the main reason why so many people associate power options with trim and badging. But I don't believe there is a direct correlation.
I wouldn't even bother checking the VIN, you got what you got. Very common except for no CC. I've had two '05' and a "01" with no power or door locks. My '03 is the only one of the 10 XLT's that has had all the power features. AC has been a no cost option since '87'. My '98' has no power and CC either. There are so many different options and combinations that Ford has had over the years
