Hey guys i'm new on here.bringing I just bought an 07 F 250 5.4. I want to lift it 5 inches. I dont really have the money for an icon 4.5 but dont want a cheap lift either. I was thinking of going with the bds 4" lift and then adding the icon tei spacer up front and 4" block in the back to replace the bds 3". Just wondering if this will work and if anyone had any experience with this. I'd also love any reviews of bds lifts or any concerns/constructive criticism. Thanks!
The TEI spacer and longer coils will work, but in the back make sure you aren't stacking that 4" block on the factory 2" block. Get an AAL and run a single 4" block at most.
BDS is above average, their hardware is solid and all the stuff I've seen has been put together well, but their springs are the only parts I haven't used from them. Shocks leave something to be desired, so if you can get Bilstein or Rancho.
Thanks! What is an AAL? And if i wanted to avoid stacking blocks wouldnt i have to go with a 6" block in the back to level it if i eliminate the factory2 and go 5up front?
AAL is an add-a-leaf, where you put a new spring into the rear pack. In most cases a lift block means you're cheaping out on the rear lift and not gaining anything from a performance stand point, but seeing as how the SDs came with a factory block I'll yield and say up to a 4" block is acceptable. Anything over that and you need to do a real lift on the rear end. Stacking blocks is a hack job, pure and simple. 5"+ blocks are a cheap alternative, but can cause you more problems in the long run than if you just found the extra $300 and did the rear end the right way the first time through.
Your truck came with a 2" block from the factory. Put in a 4" block from an F350, and find a 2.5" AAL kit. That nets you 4.5" over factory, combined with a 5.5" front kit to lift a nose that already sat 2" low, and you're still 1" low on the nose after the lift. Or just leave out the 1" TEI spacer.
What are your performance, tire size and wheel dimension goals? That will drive what actual amount of lift you need more than just arbitrarily choosing 5 inches.
Well im not arbitrarily choosing 5 there is very specific reasoning behind it. Maryland lift laws are 28" and troopers are very strict. My uncle has an 03 f250 5.4 with 6" and 35's and it puts him at 28 5/8". He has been pulled 6 times for height and has had to get the truck re-inspected. Using that as a reference if I go 5" and 36's it should put me at 28 1/8" which after some treadwear should make me exactly legal. That being said i want 36x13.50x15 and pray they dont rub bad
You're not going to fit 36x13.50x15s on a 2007 SD, unless you want to delete your brakes. You'll have to start with a minimum rim size of 17". If you put some work into finding a set of wheels with the correct backspacing, you'll be able to run 36s under a 4-5" lift without any problems, 35s will clear with a 2" kit, 34s clear completely stock.
You so want a TEI+4" coils up front, and a 4" block + 2.5" AAL in the back with 36" tires. Sounds perfectly reasonable.
