Ok so i just bought a 1966 f100 as far as i can tell it has an early 80s 302 and a c4
got it running ,pluged a few vac lines set timming, was running good slight miss no poping
then it quit, turned over a few times then locked up
once i started looking i found a plug that has the end pushed over almost cut off,the coolant runs into the pan as fast as it is put in
anyone have any ideas what could have happened or how they relate
havent pulled it apart yet wondering where to start?
ok so it turns out that the front cylinder on the driver side intake valve broke off smashed piston then rod punched through cylinder wall
on the brite side when i find a good block and put it all back together ill know whats been done to it
any sugestions as to what year 302 would be best?
6cannons, suggest you may want to also post the question in the 302 engine forum, they have been very helpful when I have had issues with 302 in the past.
Had simular issue with a 70 Torino 302 that I installed in the 65, 15K after rebuild the cylinder wall cracked. I was looking for a quik fix and ordered a rebuilt 68 delivered to my door, this was about 7 yrs. ago and it has been a great engine. I later regretted not considering later model, not sure I would have gone with fuel injection, but a later model may have offered options concering choice of cam, and heads, etc. ??
Would be nice if able to hear it run. 68 and it obviously has been rebuilt at some point, I would be interested in how much material is left, would not be interested if .040 or over. I would want to take compression test, not sure what's available with you folks who reside in 'gods county, north of the border. Purchased a rebuilt long block, from an outfit in Wash. state, speicifed nothing over .030, and had it delivered for $1500. Came with a 7yr. warranty but did not inquire if there's a disclaimer for DIY installation? Anyhow, good luck, I would be somewhat cautions in shopping for early model V8.
