going turbo! which one(s)?

themore i stare at my engine bay the more i want to do it. im confident if i find the charger(s) for less than 150 bucks then everything else is cake and cheap. I can fab anything i want so dont need to pay a shop.
Im really thinking just to flip the manifolds side to side and upside down so the exhaust would be near the front of the engine.
im thinking running 2 turbos, non intercooled.
Fab a little 6" extension tube and bracket to offset the turbos from the VC.
The extension tube will bolt to the manifold (cast is hard to weld) and have a flange for whatever style turbo i decide on welded to the other side.
Run the discharge pipes to a Y connector to a single 4" into the manifold.
Also Id tap a water injector down stream as well to keep EGTs down.

water injection right before the hotside is ultimate, but very expensive so wont be doing that.

Im onloy looking for max 10 lbs of boost, im not studding the engine or doing anything crazy, or pulling massive loads. Just want better mileage in town, and a little more pull up the hills.

what are yalls opinions? What size turbos should I be looking for?

also i should mention my budget minus the water injection and pyro/boost is $300 (like hairyboxnoogle). Thats for piping, chargers, hardware. I would like waste gates though so i dont accidentally overboost. However i really dont think an intecooler would be necessary in my application, especially with water injection.
thoughts?

if you are only looking for 10 lbs boost, just pick up a used turbo kit.
there is no need to do twins unless you are looking for big boost numbers

If hes doing real "twins" and not compounds they would work for low pressure. But in the end you would be better off with a "stock" kit imo. I only used the HX35 because i know they work well in compounds, which was the eventual plan anyway,( in progress btw)

used kits are expensive around here. Also I really dont think the turbo will fit back there due to the engine leaning back more. Seems leaks are hard to seal up back there as well. Only kind of kit ive seen for sale was just the turbo off an idit for 500 bucks.

The twins would be cool because they would spin pretty quickly im assuming?
Relatively easy to get to glow plug controller, better packaging overall IMO.
Im looking to hit full boost around 1600-1800 rpm and carry that on to about 3000.
This is more for mileage and better in town driveability than pulling power.

I'm considering buying a Banks kit brand new on eBay for around $2,700. I probably will not do it this year, but I plan large unnecessary purchases like that well in advance. The only fab tools I have are basic items like hammer, drill, coleman propane torch, grinder, etc. I don't want the headache of chasing down rubber grommets and bolts that fit etc. IIRC, I paid about 1700 for my truck and I have already spent that much on it again just getting it where it needs to be, and I have a long way to go! I guess if i am going upside down on it, I may as well go all out! It could be worse, I could be one of these guys that leased a new BMW every 24 months.

^if your in real estate it pays to lease a new bmw! lol

Thats exactly what i mean, i would never ever ever drop 3k on a turbo kit for this truck. No where worth it, and even if it was i can build something just as good or better with what i know and what i can do. I admit I have been lazy and I should dig out my books on turbine sizing and adjusting things with the amount of fuel I want to burn to acheive the goals I want.

What is our stock pump size, 60 cc?

I'm generally pretty frugal myself and the idea of shelling out 3k on the kit is a little unsettling even though I am considering it. I think it would be neat to piece together a parts list for a DIY turbo setup. It could list the potential turbos that would work and what kind of vehicles came equipped with them. Maybe list the exhaust manifold options, flipping them, bolting something on from another vehicle etc. Then we would need a list of the necessary things to check off, like provide oil to turbo, and a few options for accomplishing that. If I knew what all to do and buy I would go for a homebrew setup myself, but I would need some help. Otherwise it will end up involving drier vent hose, pvc, pantyhose, rebar, etc lol

hey guys whats the sizing for stock turbos? A/R on intake and exhaust?
Im assuming for twins, i could half it, run smaller turbos and get something similar (although cfm would probably be choked out at higher rpms?)

non wastegate unit, with open exhaust i will hit 16-17lbs boost at 3300 rpm.
pump is turned up 1 1/2 flats.
with a 3 inch 2 chamber muffler (flowmaster delta 50 series) it will hold 10-12 lbs boost.
and the engine has 496,000 miles on with tired pump and injectors.
