Has the high pressure oil pump ever been replaced? If I recall correctly, the '04 model year aluminum bodied high pressure oil pumps have known to have the "BB" blow out the side of the pump body, causing oil to leak out enough at idle speed to cause low pressure oil pressure to drop. All this is, is a gallery plug that is pressed into the side of the high pressure oil pump body. Fellow members here will be better able to explain the part I'm talking about, and maybe even post pictures of said part, in order to give you a better understanding. The low pressure oil pump is what feeds the high pressure oil pump by the way, if you're wondering. And the high pressure oil pump is what supplies high pressure oil to the injectors, in order to control fuel pressure injected into the combustion chambers under varying conditions.
If the HPOP is deemed to be the problem, do your research on replacing the pump with an aftermarket one versus a Ford one.
There are a few threads on here with users who report the 2003 - 2004 Ford ones being problematic, some failing again relatively soon after replacement.
I needed to replace mine and all the reading I did pointed towards avoiding the Ford pump. Your conclusions way be different but at least do the homework.
