Baxter State Park - Millinocket Maine - MT Katahdin - Hunt Trail - 10-10&11-15
hey folks.it's the moment you've all been waiting for......well at least i have.
thats right,its currently peak fall foliage season in Millinocket Maine! so lets head up to the northern Maine woods this weekend!
this weekend i take off Friday evening to camp in Baxter state park and hike Mount Katahdin Saturday.this is my second time to summit Maine's highest point (5,270 feet) and the northern most terminus of the appellation trail.
approx 15 or so years ago i summit via abol trail (currently closed) and then knifes edge and back down abol.this time i take the hunt trail (both ways) which is about 10 miles round trip.it takes me 5 hours to summit and near 3 hrs to descend.
so lets get started guys! warning! it's below freezing at the top.so bring lots of cloths and wear your long underwear cus your gunna need 'em! it's gunna be cold and very,very,very windy up there!
welcome to Millinocket friends;
welcome to the vast,wild & beautiful park;
so i setup camp and get some shut eye.then in the am i awake refreshed and ready to go.you guys ready?! let's climb!
we're heading a long ways from civilization.use caution;
lets cross the stream and head up to the falls along the way;
ok guys,not a whole lot of time for site seeing.we've got a long,long,long journey ahead of us.so let's head up.i brought my flashlight but we don't want to still be up on the mountain come nightfall.so lets hustle;
