I have a 2001 ranger with 2.5L 2wd wanting to take the motor out and swap into a 4x4 that has a blown motor. What year/make of ranger will my 2.5L bolt up to stock tranny, wiring, ect?
This doesn't seem like a stupid question to me. You are asking for information. To not ask is being stupid.
Some more information from you will help. What engine does the 4x4 truck have in it and what year is it?
It is unusual for the 2.5 Lima engine with 4 wheel drive, so I am doubtful that the 2.5 will work for you. The bell housings for the 2.5, 3.0 and 4.0 are unique to each engine. What you need for an engine replacement is the same engine that is currently in the 4x4 vehicle.
Don't quote me on the dates, but I think the Ranger 4WD hasn't has a four banger since the 80's (since then it's had the 4.0L). Since transmission, transfer case, bell housing, and front & rear ends are different between the 4.0 & 2.5, it's doubtful that you'll find a bolt-in solution unless you find an old vehicle.
