used 4.0L engine question

ive got a 1991 ranger 4x4 with the 4.0l engine thats about worn out.. iwant to buy a used engine the trouble is its nearly impossible to find a low milage 91 engine. my question is whats the latest model ranger that the engine in it will just bolt right up to my existing 3spd/w od auto trans.

Standard answer would be '91 to '94. Later 4.0 OHV's might work, but they have some differences (compression ratio, amongs others), so I'm not sure.

I think any Ford 4.0L OHV long block from '90-'00 will bolt up.As mrshorty says, there have been some tweaks of the 4.0L OHV over the years, but I don't believe they affect the interchangeability of the motors:
