Please explain: 10k Resistor Mod
CAn anyone tell me what this is? Or provide a link to how/what to do...
I've heard that you can trick the sensor that looks for smoke in the exhaust/tail pipe with a resistor to gain HP.
Is this it? Or is this something entirely different?

So is this the sensor that is in the tail pipe that checks for smoke/smog?
What type of gains can be expected? Good and points?
Is there a page out there that has instructions on this mod?

For a simple mod that looks fairly complicated. jschira you said that it just tricked you intake into raising the injection pressure. What would be the advantage of that over a programer. It looks like its a little too much for the average type person.

There are a lot of vendors who sell boxes and programmers that do much the same thing. The difference is that the 10K mod can be built yourself for less than $10 in parts versus $100's for a box from a vendor.

Are there any published gains this gives? I wouldn't think it's worth all that for a mere 5 ft/lbs or HP....

I think that it is more of a driveability mod rather than a great generator of HP.
I think that some of these posts discuss pros and cons, what to expect.
If you are looking for HP and torque, a chip or a programmer will give you a better result and most will include a 10K mod-like improvement.
The 10K mod was/is intended as a quick, cheap DIY kick in the pants.

Please explain: 10k Resistor Mod
The 10K mod dosen't need switches or rheostats or anything else. These are things that are added to make it adjustable, and to switch it off at idle.
If you just want to try it out to see if you like it you can simply take a 10K ohm resistor and push it into the plug for the ICP sensor. No need to build anything.
On a stock truck the 10K is said to make around 20hp. On my not stock truck the 10K added 8hp, and 32lbft of torque. Not too shabby for a $0.21 mod.
