What is this Axle

The pictures of my warrenty plate and the axle tag are below. The warrenty plate idicates a 3.89 but the tag did not confirm this as I did not know how to read it. I am trying to get my speedometer working and want to get the correct tranmission drive gear.

The ratio showing on the tag is 3.00

WES AA shows on the sometimes inaccurated decoder ring as:

<table style="border-collapse: collapse;" id="table2" border="1" cellSpacing="0" cellPadding="2" width="98%"><tbody><tr><td>Cougar '69-'70
Mustang '69-'71

</td><td align="center">3.00</td><td align="center">9 in</td><td align="center">NL</td><td align="center">28</td></tr></tbody></table>

Thanks, where did you get your secret decoder ring? I looked in the cereal box this morning an could not find one. Maybe I need to change to a different brand of cereal.

WES-AA = 1969/70 Mustang/Cougar 9" / 3.00-1 / No Limited Slip.

8LA: Assembled the 1st week (A) of November (L) 1968 (8).

Only the center section was swapped. The Mustang/Cougar housing won't fit an F100 and their wheels are 5 lug 14" on a 4 1/2" bolt circle.

Info source: 1965/72 Ford Passenger Car Parts Catalog. Looked in the '65/72 L/M version to verify it was also used in Cougar's.

DRIVE gear located on output shaft of trans. DRIVEN gear located at end of speedo cable, where it fits into trans.

Does you '64 still have the original Warner T-86 3 speed Overdrive (TRANS code B)?

I had a '65 F100 352 with Warner T-85N 3 speed Overdrive. It came with 3.50-1, but in 1981, I installed a new 3.00-1 R&P. Hwy MPG improved slightly.

DRIVEN gear is nylon, 16 - 21 teeth available. Same gears used for over 40 years, so all are available from Ford for less than 5 bucks each.
Don't you mean 4 1/2" bolt circle on the Mustang/Cougar rear end? Last time I checked, 4 3/4" was a Chevy bolt circle.....
