I am not having any luck locating the speedo drive gear for a 1963 3-speed manual trans. Trans code is C3AR-7006-E. Speedometer cable is on the driver's side.
I tried a couple of places online and local parts stores, no luck.
Anyone know where to purchase new speedometer gears for this transmission? Any guesses on tooth count with 3.90 rear axle and 235/75/15 tires?
He said they have the drive gear for a 1964 transmission, but it will not work in a 1963 transmission. Mentioned there was a major change from 63 to 64. From what I have found, I thought the major change happened between 62 and 63. Maybe there was a major change both years?
He said they have the drive gear for a 1964 transmission, but it will not work in a 1963 transmission. BS!
Mentioned there was a major change from 63 to 64. Uh huh,
What's the difference between a 1963 vs a 1964 F100/250 3 speed manual? NONE!
Same Ford type 3.03 all syncromesh introduced in 1963.
9" rear axle ratio should be 3.89-1, not 3.90.
Speedo DRIVEN gear (end of cable) could be nylon or steel w/a fiber gear riveted to steel body.
DRIVE gear on output shaft could be nylon or steel. Correct gears depend on trans type/rear axle ratio/tire size.
Parts catalog does not list P-metric tires sizes, so you'll have to convert the 235/75/15 to the original bias ply size if you want correct Ford part numbers.
Or, count the number of teeth on these gears, tell me what they're made of.
btw: The 16 thru 21T nylon DRIVEN gears have been used for over 50 years. ALL are available from Ford for less than 5 bucks each.
I think I will take the gear out of the trans so I can give them the measurements. He is telling me the ID on the drive gear is different in a 63 trans vs. a 64 trans.
