Question Need some help/advice...weird problem happening

I have an '03 with the 6.0 122k mi on it daily driver.
The only problem I have have had with it is the ICP sensor went out at about 80k.
This morning when I started my truck it started fine but it does not run right, will not shift properly and when it does shift at low speeds there is a "shuttering" noise thru the exhaust....never did that before. also when it is sitting at an idle the tach jumps up slightly, not much but noticeable and also not normal. The truck is all stock with no add ons and when I hooked up my code reader there are no codes. SInce I had been injured and cant work my regular job any more I depend on this truck to get me back and forth to the Dr and to school and can't afford a real big bill right now....anyone have any ideas as to what might have caused this? It still runs and if I take things slow I can get to where I need to be but I know it is not good for the truck. Any help and suggestions would be really appreciated!!

What did you use to scan it with? The ones at Autozone are ok but not the
best and as far as the SGII it really is not good for codes. that being said
the SGII is good to give you some basic live data that may help solve this problem.
Some of the other people are more on top of symptoms and causes than I am.
Lets see if one will jump in on this.
Have you looked at the tech folder for some ideas on what is going on?
It could be as simple as a leak in one of the various air/exhaust pressure sensors.
So check hoses and look for cracks and any wire chafing. I am thinking MAP and
MAS. But like I said I am not fully up on it yet and I have an 06 too. They read/have
some different sensors than the 03 does.

sean is right , you need to moniter some sensers but for now and its real easy to pull the map and hose connection to the egr cooler the build up in that connection use some weed eater line and run it thru the hose spray it all down with carb cleaner ( ware safety glasses that stuf burns like hell ),when was the last time you pulled the EGR and cleaned her? it could be sooted up , make sure you get the o-ring kit from ford its not exspenive

To be honest it has never had the EGR cleaned always ran like a champ with no problems what so ever until this morning. BUT I have been doing a lot of short runs lately to a part time job and school 8 blocks to the job and 1.5 mi to school one way. Could this be causing the EGR to plug up? again never had any problems with it but always did alot of highway driving before.

Also I took it to work tonight and it ran perfectly, no loss of power, no miss shifting no odd exhaust noises....has me stumped!! This truck has always been serviced at the dealer I bought it from seeing that they threw in free oil changes for as long as I own it, they have done all the work on it for anything I needed mainly tires, brakes etc.

I used to be pretty good at wrenching and would have no problems attempting almost anything when it came to my trucks but due to my current situation I need to have dealer do the work, I just like to have some idea what might be wrong before I call them and bring it in.

Again Thanks for your help and advice guys!!

Short trips are not good for a diesel. You need to get it up to operating
temps 190F. The short trips will soot things up. I would stop and pick
up the EGR valve gasket set and then clean it with some carb cleaner
put some fresh oil on the O-rings and reinstall it. You may also want
to use a shop vac to clean out the hole after you pull it out. When cleaning
the valve don't turn it upside down because you don't want the cleaner going
into the upper section
Here is what the hidden part of the valve looks like

If you read in the tech folder there are some instructions on how to remove and clean it.
If you need help with this just ask.

Do you hear it most when you let off the throttle?.short trips will stick the turbo unison ring in a hurry. Clean the egr valve first and see if it clears up. If it dont i'd clean the turbo.
