Hello all have a question about the C6 tranny which fluid should be used in it the haynes book says Dexron II but some others have said to use Meron V Which should i use or does it Matter?
dexron=mercon. for some years ford and chevy had different names for it, but they're the same. mercon v is a later version which came out long after your tranny was made. fluids are back-compatible, which means mercon v is fine in a tranny made for earlier versions of dexron/mercon.
so go with the generic dexron/mercon stuff. some brands now label it MD3 on the bottle, same stuff.
Dexron is a Registered Trademark of General Motors Company and Mercon is a Registered Trademark of Ford Motor Company for the same exact tranny fluid.
Back when these trucks were built Ford paid a license fee to GM to use the Dexron Trademark and fluid. Why you will see some Ford literature and owners manuals refer to Dexron in the early years.
Later on Ford came up with their own Registered Trademark name, Mercon for the fluid.
