Hey guys I have a huge problem, I was just screwing the cover back on after installing the blue spring upgrade and one of the screws stripped out the hole it was going into, I know I didn't tighten it too tight because it didn't get tight at all. Has onyone ever done this a what did you do to fix it, other than tap to the next bigger size, and what is the next bigger size?
If your any good with a drill and tap... you can either use a bigger screw or get a heli coil kit if you want the same size screw back in. I've also heard of a guy filling the hole with jb weld hand screwing the bolt in then gently taking it back out and letting it harden to make a threaded mold. He said it held never had a problem but this was on the egr valve... I'm assuming it could work anywhere where extreme tourqe isn't an issue.
A heli coil kit would be the best bet. The one thing you need to check is
the amount of metal left to work with. If you get it too thin then your
going to have problems. When you put the screws in then don't need
much in the toque department. We are talking In/oz not Ft/lb. I don't
recall the size of the screw but the way to find a toque value is easy
you go be the fastener size and it should be in a listing for common toque
values somewhere in the service manuals. If you can't find it here is a
nice chart in PDF format that has the common torque values. http://www.imperialsupplies.com/pdf/...rqueCharts.pdf
A helicoil on the housing won't work. the hole you have to drill is too big in my opinion to leave any meat on the shoulder only appx 1/16th left overall so 1/32nd of a shoulder.
