So i resolved all mechanical issues besides the exhaust leak... Whial i was doing the flue filter i noticed that in back of the frame on top it looks thinner than everywhere else, about 5 inc from where the cab meets the bed, headed back towards the rear of the truck. I don't see any signs of bending, or damage. its just... a bit thinner. like, everywhere else on the frame is about as thick as a nickle and dime stacked o each other and the spots in question is about as thick as just a nickle. So i guess my question is that is this cause for alarm? What do i do? i love the truck and don't want to junk it, im restoring it. should i even mess with it? it dosent seem weak. should i just clean and rust proof the crap out of it? any help would be appreciated! thanks!
Is it thin due to rust? Obviously I'm not talking about surface rust, I mean this kind that eats through frames. If it's mostly rust free, it's probably just due to the way the frame was formed and don't worry about it. Just don't try jumping it...
And yes, you should always clean and rust proof the crap out of it. That would absolutely have prevented the shackle issue in the pic I linked to.
Thanks dan! Its thiner than the rest of the frame but its not swiss cheese, its still solid enough where i cant puncture it. i cant bend it and it dosent brake apart, i cleaned it off. I want to take it off road occasionaly, and maybe tow. the guy who had it before me towed 6 ATV's on a heavy duty car trailer like this, you think it's going to be ok? Mostly i just want to restore it
