I am needing to replace the selector switch for my 4x4 on my 2003 F150 Lariat FX4... I already have the new switch. Whats the best way to get in there to remove and replace the switch?
Before you do this, how did you determine the switch is faulty if it was not tested to begin with?
I suspect some guessing is going on for a 4x4 issue.
What is the real problem?
The system is operationally quite complex so you need to give some info or learn how it works before diving in by changing parts.
Good luck.
The **** no longer "clicks" into place and it just spins... Its the switch and not the **** because I have pulled the **** and the shaft on the switch just spins...
Yep....pop that bezel off and IIRC the switch has 2 small screws that hold it onto the bezel. The wire connector is right there also...just un-plug that. Keep the old switch if you can. There is a small light bulb you can get out that is only specific for that switch. Otherwise if the illumination goes out in the future on the new switch, you have a bulb and socket rather than shelling out for another new switch. I fixed mine with a specialty type micro bulb......what a pain though.
The light bulb in my current switch has already died, as well as the outer ****. For the past year I could put it in 4 wheel drive with the **** but had to pull the **** and turn the shaft by hand to get it back out of 4x4... I guess I know what todays project is gonna be...
Got it done, bezel just popped off... It took my longer to round up all the proper tools than it did swapping the switch out. Everything works good as new now.
