headlite switch

hi all

well, i needed a headlite switch (for the 50 F1), and was ordering some parts from Mac's, so added that to the dreamin list (parts order)... ordered the shaft / ****, and a switch .

got them in, the **** looks orginal ( I ordered all of the *****, for the whole dash), unfortunatley it doesn't fit the switch. The only switch they offer is a aftermarket switch, witch is functional, and comes with a built in shaft (not removable) and a chintzy ****(it unscews and is white, doesnt even come close to the other *****).

Anyone else found Orginal switchs? or a suitable sub???

Robert

What's the chance of adapting the **** to the aftermarket switch? I little work might get that good-looking **** on the switch you have in hand.

george,
already thought about that... a couple things though

1. the "new" switch does not have a dimmer for the dash lites (I can live with that).
2. the "new" switch does not allow for a dome lite (I can not live with out that).
3. The shaft is molded into the new **** (the shaft looks like a standard ford shaft (except it is 3/16 (vers 1/8"), and appears that it would disenage like most fors headlite switchs with the button on the bottom of the switch).

I could probably remove the shaft (using heat), and epoxy it on to the new switch ( The shaft on the switch is 1/8"), but not sure if i would be able to remove it once it is installed.

Here is what I did on my 54 being to cheap to buy a new headlight switch. I took the original switch and cut off the part the dash bezel screwed into and tack welded it to a 70S ford car headlight switch and I also cut the shafts in to on bolth switches and welded
the outer 1/2 of the original switch shaft to the back half of the 70S switch shaft. Now I have A switch that looks stock.

The original switches pop up on everyone's favorite auction site. You can watch there or if you have the part number 7RA 11654, go to www.motorplace.com and use the "Parts Voice" option at the top of the page. You use your zip code as your password to get in. Put the number in and if there's any obsolete parts places that have one, it will give you a list of who and thier phone numbers. I use it all the time to find stuff. It beats overpaying on that auction site.

If having a dome light is your only worry you can still run a dome light and use a separate switch to turn them on while inside the vehicle. I did this on my 55 and it works very well. I used the hole where the push starter button was. I also have all "original" **** on in my dash. I use wiper **** for my AC unit from Mid-fifty they have an allen screw in them to tighten them down, this may work for your light switch.

I got one from them about 12 years ago and never had any problems with it; it has a dash dimmer and a interior dome on it, mine was for 6 volts I recently changed to one for 12 volts which didn't have all park, dome, dash dimmer.
