figured id start a new thread now that i have a bronco. steering box rebuild, hard or should i just bite the bullet and buy a rebuilt. or even better yet go with a power steering setup. i put powers steering on my 55 ****** jeep, really was pretty easy. from what i found on the internet it seems that i can use a steering box off other truck but have to modify it quite a bit. im also looking for the clips that hold the door locks in place plus a outside door handle rod. i like to find the stuff cheap, if possible.
thanks. well its not going to be an overnight project.
that's alright, where U R it wont rot, fall apart or rust. U got time... A few yrs ago I saw a Studebaker p/u and the orig Morris Minor (cooper S? mini? I 4 get) in a local junk yrd (Tonapah, NV). They looked like the day they were made - to ME - a Right Coast guy.
(60 yrs old)
R U on that or the China Lake side?
Oh, I C now - yer on the AZ side....
Lotta stuff fits from other similar era fords (falcon, comet, early 'stang). If U have a broken piece (door rod, lock clip) U just hafta go look & compare to what U have/need. If U don't have it an exploded diagram off another web site can help ID a replacement...
If U wanna rebuild there's a place in TX ("West TX something er the other" that comes highly recommended on the CB site). I'd get a Signaw pump and a power box if U R doing off rd &/or big tires (33" +).
OK, well - this site is getting more and more "content heavy" so dial-up membership is just about prohibited. It's really gotten worse since they changed the header under the photo @ the top of the page. One page didn't load in 15 min, this un took 5...
For what its worth would being a FTE site "paying supporter" help you any? I hate all the pop up add BS so I did it, 3 yrs subscription will also get you a t shirt and sticker....
Or is dial up the only way to get internet, no DSL in your area? Even most land line phone companies offer internet (none dial up) thru a separate system.
I had "wild blue" satellite for quite a while, now have internet thru phone company.
im on a mac, dont get pop up adds. also have high speed internet, only 6 megs but good enough. i also have vmware fushion that runs windows, never use it unless i have to, which i dont. but when i did i found out what is meant by pop ups. good old windows, youve got to love it.
Thanks guys, I like the different suggestions. I can't go the monthly charge. $9 or $10 a mo. is tough enuff, right now, as it is. The iBook G4 is around 7 yrs old too but limpin along.
How ya doing w/the s. box? Would U wanna send it out, do it yerself or go PS?
Da door lock thing just looks like a shim 2 me. Take some sheet stock, drill a hole in it just the size of the lill slots in the lock, cut off one edge (to make it look like a U) then cut the whole thing offa the sheet. Try it on the lock, if it fits slightly bend up the lower edge (where the 2 fingers U made R) push the lock thru the door and push the shim stock down from above such that the 2 fingers slide into the slots on the sides of the lock. The bend will hold the shim in the sides of the lock (& agasinst the inside sheet metal of the door) so the lock will not fall out and the shim will not fall out. At least mine did not oem since 1970 till now!
HTH & is a clear explination (if U have the lock it may B, otherwise - not so understandable).
there selling them on ebay for $285.00. guess as time goes by they become cheaper and cheaper. also heard a old lincoln box will work. but hey for under $300.00 to get on guaranteed, well its worth it. as for the bracket and pump, well i have a rebuilt pump and the bracket is a $10.00 thing at pick-a-part on there $10.00 day. i did a lot to my old 55 ****** jeep and have to say that power steering was the best thing i did. this bronco isnt as much of a killer as my jeep but still would be nice, and would have to add value. my jeep cost me all of $60.00 to put power steering. big difference in my bronco. guess if i really had to i could get any heavy duty box that turned in the right direction and make my own mounting plate but maybe not look so nice and the broncs are worth a lot more than the older jeeps.
i like 2 C them on the inside of the frame, whadda U think...more protected? would it make a difference which side (for protection)?
Tryin to replace the "Y" style (came w/my '77 frame) with the "T" style ster. linkage (from my '70) in a TRO style but have been told will need the F150 knuckles due to the '76/7 discs/D44 frnt end. Will hit the calipers... I think the '73 -9 F250 knuckles will also fit so I can put on 1 tuns... wonder if the 1 T will fit w/the F150 knucks?
outside of frame id think would be fine. yaeh brakes are another upgrade needed. another pick-a-part $10.00 day. friend of mine did the disc brake upgrade and didnt need a porpotioning valve. hes been driving it daily for years without any problems. so much to do and so little money. first im going to get a radiator fan shroud, runs cool but sure is dangerous working on while running.
I run an electric fan on the outside of the aluminium radiator and have removed the metal block fan all togather, wala safe. Unless you stick a finger in between the belts for the alt or p/s pulleys. Becides with the trans cooler where it is, I do not have the room.
