Well after about 3 hours of tracking down all the power to my light switch it checked out good but when I got down to the dimmer switch I found that the carpet was damp and I reckon it shorted out the dimmer switch, took a wire and jumped the top wire to either one on the side wires and the headlights worked. Thanks again to everyone who gave advice and solutions, now I'm on to the wiper motor.

^^^^^ That's exactly why most of the world moved the beam dimmer switch off the floor and onto the column stalk by 1980-ish. Leave it to Ford to keep it there well into the '80s.
