Question franken idi

i curently have a 91 idi with a frame ready to completly **** out, e40d with a converter that locks and unlocks going down the road, engine runs really strong the whole top end is new, incolnel valves, arp studs new prechambers head flow benched and matched every thing, theres a 97 that im thinking of buying dirt cheap with a 460 and 5 sp and good chassis, what im thinkin of doing is biulding one good truck from the 2, my truck is an xlt lariat with power everthing and i like the styling inside the cab better then the 97 but like the nose on the 97 better plus the 97 is a base model with nothing, what i want to do is put my cab, engine and solid front D60 on the 97 frame and while my idi is apart biuld a custom turbo set up, leveing kit and springs to fit 35's, any ideas or tips would be helpfull

if you're looking for a project, sounds like fun. things should line up, as the body was about the same through 97.
if you're looking to get it back on the road next week, this might be more of a project than fits the goal.

as it sits right now, is there anything really wrong with the 97 besides the fact that it'll have a drinking habit?

you'll probably need to swap fuel tanks and all fuel lines, i would be concerned a
bout electrical if you weren't keeping your old cab, but it sounds like that'll be a non-issue since the cab follows the engine...

in the local market, you can buy a good diesel truck for a pretty fair price, and we all know that major conversions get expensive. so what are your goals here - a fun project to take all summer, or ?? will you be using the truck as a daily driver, trailer puller, work rig, or ??

The diesel is curently a daily driver what my plan is to drive the gas hog while i strip the parts off the diesel and get preped for instalation paint, seals ect, when everything is ready i will swap engine and cab with wiring on the 97 frame, its going to be a daily driver, its gona be a project witch is normal thing for me, my second car outa high school i had to cut in half and put a new rear clip on 2000 cherokee, main thing is i love the truck i have now and want to give i a make over and keep the idi with all the top end work on it

Thats alot of work and an electical headach, I would just fix the old truck, if you do what your taking about you would be killing you 91 that you love to put together someting else that won't be the same. I would find anther wreaked or dead 91 that has the stuff you want and butcher it.
But, its your time and money.

This is basically what I did with my truck, It was a 5.8/C6 gasser. Its not that bad of a job if you just take your time and work it all out.

Fuel tanks will work fine on the 97, My tanks were the gasser's tanks, I just popped the diesel senders and fuel lines/FSV on the gasser frame, I havent had any issues with de-galv or anything. Put the diesel frame harness on the gasser, and it will be plug and play when you put the diesel cab on.

Its really not that bad of a job, at least not as bad as many make it sound, and it gives you a chance to clean everything up in the process.
